Sunday Nursery & Pre-school

Nursery and Toddler Rooms

We employ a child-care staff, led by Sonja Lipski, for our nursery and preschool playroom so that the same faces will greet children each week. During the 9:30 a.m. hour, children in the playroom enjoy free play. Volunteer teachers lead the storytelling circle during worship. We are also blessed with wonderful teen assistants.

The Storytelling Circle for 2- and 3-year-olds during worship

During worship, these children are invited to the Storytelling Circle down the hall in the Marks Room. The Storytelling Circle is based on Godly Play, a Montessori-like curriculum for teaching stories from scripture in a worship context. To help these young children follow the stories, we use very simple wooden figures and other props. The stories begin with Creation and continue through Pentecost. Visiting adults are always welcome!

The Storytelling Circle for 4-year-olds and Kindergartners during worship

These older children are invited to their own Storytelling Circle in Classroom B near the elevator in the gym end of the building. This Circle is also a Montessori-like curriculum for teaching stories from the New Testament. Again, we use simple wooden figures to help the children keep the stories in their eyes as well as their minds. Visiting adults are always welcome!

Parents, Grab a Pager

Silent pagers are available for members and visitors with nursery and preschool-aged children. These pagers vibrate, making no noise, to signal a parent in the sanctuary or at an adult class that the nursery staff would like for you to check on your child. This allows parents to relax, confident that the nursery will let them know if their child is unhappy. Please sign up for a pager when you bring your child to the nursery. If you do take a pager to worship, please be certain to return it when you pick up your child after church.
