Women at the Well

April 4 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm EDT

“Women at the Well” Bible Study Group

Shadyside Presbyterian Church welcomes women of all ages to gather with the “Women at the Well” for in-depth Bible study, discussion, and fellowship. Friendships and connections grow deeper when we share the Scriptures in study and prayer.

This winter and spring, we are exploring Jesus: The God Who Knows Your Name, by Max Lucado.

Beginning Thursday, February 8, the group will gather from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Craig Room. In general, we meet on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, but check the calendar for exceptions. Our tentative schedule is as follows:

  • February 8 and 22
  • March 14
  • April 4, 11, and 25

Questions? Please contact Deacon Bonnie Leake through the church office. Join us as together we seek to quench the thirsting of our souls!

About the Study

Do you ever feel like Jesus couldn’t possibly know what you are going through? He’s the God of the universe after all! Does He really know your daily struggles? The good news is: He does.

For thirty-three years Jesus felt everything you have ever felt: weakness, weariness, sadness, rejection. His feet got tired and His head ached. He was tempted and His strength was tested. And you know why? Because in becoming human, Jesus made it possible for us to see God. His tears, God’s tears. His voice, God’s voice. Want to know what matters to God? Find out what matters to Jesus. Want to know what in the world God is doing? Ponder the words and life of Jesus.

For more than three decades, pastor and bestselling author Max Lucado has shown us Jesus. In this capstone book, he takes us further on the journey to know the life and character of the Savior.

This book describes both the person Jesus was on earth and how to live in a personal relationship with Him and is divided into six sections:

  • Immanuel
  • Friend
  • Teacher
  • Miracle Worker
  • Lamb of God
  • Returning King

By exploring Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection as well as specific details like how He interacted with his friends and His enemies, what He did with time alone, how He acted at a party, this compilation from Max Lucado—now with original never-before-read content from Max—gives readers the chance to become more familiar with the man at the center of the greatest story ever told.

Max writes, “Don’t settle for a cursory glance or a superficial understanding. Look long into the heart of Christ and you’ll see it. Grace and life. Forgiveness of sin. The defeat of death. This is the hope He gives.”

Jesus wants you to know Him. As you read these pages, may the hero of all history talk to you personally, and may you find in Him the answer to your deepest needs.

About the Author

Max Lucado is a pastor, speaker, and bestselling author who, in his own words, “writes books for people who don’t read books.” He serves the people of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, and his message is for the hurting, the guilty, the lonely, and the discouraged: God loves you; let Him.

Max is known for combining poetic storytelling and homespun humor with the heart of a pastor. All of his trade books began as sermon series at Oak Hills Church, and his sermons all begin with Max asking himself this question: “What can I say on Sunday that will still matter on Monday?” He’s been dubbed “America’s Pastor” by Christianity Today, and “The Best Preacher in America” by Reader’s Digest.

Max’s books have sold more than 96 million copies in 56 languages worldwide with more than 145 million total products in print branded with his name and words. Max’s books regularly appear on bestseller lists, including The New York Times. His writing has also been featured in Bible studies, Bible commentaries, songs, greeting cards, and even plush toys.

Max and his wife Denalyn live in San Antonio, Texas, and celebrated forty years of marriage in 2021. They have three grown daughters, three sons-in-law, and two grandchildren.
