“Women at the Well” Bible Study Group

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Shadyside Presbyterian Church building and offices are open on a limited basis. Most activities remain online only. Click here to learn more.

Shadyside Presbyterian Church welcomes women of all ages to gather online with the “Women at the Well” for in-depth Bible study, discussion, and fellowship. Friendships and connections grow deeper when we share the Scriptures in study and prayer.

This winter and spring, we are exploring The Case for Christ: A Journalist’s Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus, by Lee Strobel. The book follows a seasoned journalist as he chases down the biggest story in history and seeks to answer for himself whether there is credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God.

Beginning Thursday, January 13, the group will gather from 10:30 a.m. to noon. In general, we meet on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, but check the calendar for exceptions. Our tentative schedule is as follows:

  • January 13 and 27
  • February 24
  • March 10 and 24
  • April 14 and 28

We hope to meet in person eventually, but, for now, we will continue meeting virtually via Zoom videoconferencing. Questions? Please contact Deacon Connie Coffelt through the church office.

Join us online as together we seek to quench the thirsting of our souls!

About the Study

Retracing his own spiritual journey from atheism to faith, Lee Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune, cross-examines a dozen experts with doctorates who are specialists in the areas of old manuscripts, textual criticism, and biblical studies.

Strobel challenges them with questions like

  • How reliable is the New Testament?
  • Does evidence for Jesus exist outside the Bible?
  • Is there any reason to believe the Resurrection was an actual event?

Strobel’s tough, point-blank questions make this bestselling book read like a captivating, fast-paced novel. But it’s not fiction. It’s a riveting quest for the truth about history’s most compelling figure.
