Wealth Gap Learning Simulation

May 29, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm EDT

In partnership with Open Hand Ministries, Shadyside Presbyterian Church will host a Racial Wealth Gap Learning Simulation on Wednesday, May 29, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The purpose of the event is to help participants understand the connection among poverty, wealth, racial equity, and federal policy. Participants will explore thirteen United States federal policies that created and perpetuated structural and institutional inequity. The social impact of these policies continues to affect education, hunger, income, and property ownership. We hope to bring awareness of how opportunities to build assets, or poverty due to loss of opportunity, go deeper than individual work ethics. With this awareness and understanding, we can support policies and actions that undo and/or reduce wealth disparities.

Dinner will be served during the event; a freewill offering will be received to offset the costs of the meal.

Please RSVP by contacting the church office or signing up in the Sharp Atrium.
