A Howard C. Scharfe Fellowship Endowment Speaker Series
Each year, Shadyside Presbyterian Church, through the Howard C. Scharfe Endowment, supports pastors in their post-graduate studies for the benefit of the Church and for the glory of God. Through this generous gift, pastors and churches for decades have been blessed to grow in new ways. This year, Shadyside Presbyterian Church has invited four recent recipients to share over dinner and through worship about their studies and how they are practicing what they learn in their congregations.
Please join us for dinner at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall, followed by vespers in the Chapel at 7:00 p.m., to see and hear about what God is up to in the church and in the world! Please contact the church office to RSVP.
On November 14, 2018, we welcome Rev. Patrice L. Fowler-Searcy as our speaker. Rev. Fowler-Searcy has been serving the East Liberty Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for twenty-two years, two and a half of which she has been serving as an ordained pastor. Her ecclesial interests include exploring how we as the people of God might walk with those in our community who are marginalized.
Rev. Fowler-Searcy has just begun her work on the way to a Doctorate of Ministry in Pastoral Leadership at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. She began in January 2018 and has so far completed two classes in the program. She is adjusting to the return and getting her head back into the space of being a student. At this time, she is thankful to be back in the academy and anticipates her participation and completion of the program will help her to be a more thoughtful, caring shepherd. She also expects that it will allow her to grow deeper in her relationships with God, congregants, and the community as she explores all the aspects of being a pastor or leader from a theological and practical perspective.
