A Howard C. Scharfe Fellowship Endowment Speaker Series

Each year, Shadyside Presbyterian Church, through the Howard C. Scharfe Endowment, supports pastors in their post-graduate studies for the benefit of the Church and for the glory of God. Through this generous gift, pastors and churches for decades have been blessed to grow in new ways. This year, Shadyside Presbyterian Church has invited four recent recipients to share over dinner and through worship about their studies and how they are practicing what they learn in their congregations.

Please join us for dinner at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall, followed by vespers in the Chapel at 7:00 p.m., to see and hear about what God is up to in the church and in the world! Please contact the church office to RSVP.

On October 10, 2018, we welcome Rev. Chris Deacon as our speaker. Rev. Deacon has been serving the United Parish of Bowie in Bowie, Maryland, for four years. His ecclesial interests include exploring what it means to be the Body of Christ in the world today, as well as what the church looks like as it moves into the future and what the next reformation will look like.

He is currently finishing his first year in the Doctorate of Ministry program at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in the Advanced Practices track. As he is still at the beginning of this program, he has enjoyed returning to the academic realm. He has especially enjoyed entering into his studies through the lens of his current ministry context at the United Parish of Bowie. As he progresses in the program, Chris is looking forward to engaging in his culminating project, which will probably be an exploration of how to cross the cultural and racial divide in our society through worship.
