What in the World Is God Doing?
Mission Dinner Series
The Mission and Urban Ministry Team of Shadyside Presbyterian Church invites you to attend our Mission Dinner Series to hear the inspirational stories of our mission partners. On one Wednesday of each month, dinner occurs from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Although there is no charge for the dinner, a freewill offering will be received to offset the costs of the meal. Please RSVP by contacting the church office or by signing up in the Sharp Atrium.
- October 5: Blantyre Synod Health and Development Commission (Malawi)
Presenter: Lindirabe Gareta Mazinyane, Executive Director
Malawi is often referred to as “the Warm Heart of Africa.” Shadyside Presbyterian Church’s history with the Blantyre region of this country supports this common phrase. The culture is both gracious and hospitable. This dinner offers an opportunity for Shadyside to return the gift of hospitality as we welcome our guest on her first visit to Pittsburgh. Lindirabe will highlight the many ministries of the Blantyre Synod Health and Development Commission (BSHDC), focusing her discussion on Orphan and Vulnerable Children’s Community Centers. In addition to these centers, Shadyside Presbyterian Church has partnered with BSHDC to build a health clinic and dormitories.
The menu on October 5 will include turkey tetrazzini; egg noodles with herbs and butter; and mixed greens salad with tomato, cucumber, and Catalina dressing. Assorted cookies will be served for dessert.
This event is one of several at which we will enjoy the company of our guests from Malawi. We hope you will take the opportunity to extend warm hospitality to our Malawian siblings at these additional gatherings:
Sesquicentennial Celebration: October 2, at 10:45 a.m.
All-Church Retreat: October 7-8
Mission Breakfast: October 9, at 9:30 a.m.
