Mexico City Mission Experience
March 4, 2017 - March 18, 2017
In March, two separate mission teams from Shadyside Presbyterian Church will visit, learn from, and experience Christ’s presence on the outskirts of Mexico City.
Visit the blog on our church’s website to read updates from the mission team.
This experience will be Shadyside’s sixth trip in partnership with ConeXión Mosaico, which will host the teams. ConeXión Mosaico is a multi-faceted community ministry that addresses urban poverty holistically, allowing urban slum communities to experience lasting transformation.
Shadyside Presbyterian Church has been in partnership with ConeXión Mosaico for nine years. Over these years, we have watched our partner grow and live into their vision, gaining international notoriety for their grassroots efforts. We are continually encouraged by their commitment to bring healing to communities by walking alongside some of the poorest residents in our hemisphere. SPC has specifically supported our partner’s ProSalud project, which is a community-based healthcare program that addresses physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
Through the ProSalud program, ConeXión Mosaico has discovered numerous issues faced by their community: domestic violence, overwhelmed pastors, and lack of community leaders, to name a few. In response to such challenges, our partner has cast a vision to build the first spiritual retreat center in Mexico City. The center will be utilized to provide intensive counseling along with leadership training. SPC has committed to provide a matching gift to build the first two phases of the center, which is to be named CentroRenovar. Our 2017 construction teams will be working on this renewal center.
The ability to speak Spanish is not required to be a member of the team. Associate Pastor for Missions Todd E. Leach will co-lead the March 4-11 trip with CCO co-worker Brytani Clifton. The March 11-17 trip will be led by CCO co-worker Rebecca Reeder.
