Book Study Discussion

Book Study Discussion
On Wednesday, November 28, at 6:00 p.m. join us in the Hulme Room for a discussion about our study of the book Toxic Charity, by Robert D. Lupton. This book will challenge us and enable us to view our mission efforts through a different lens. Next steps for our new mission initiative also will be discussed at the meeting. Our monthly Connections Dinner takes place at the same time, so please let us know if you intend to join us so that we can prepare an adequate amount of food.
New Mission Initiative: “Upstream” Mission Action Community
A new Mission Action Community (MAC) is in the early stages of being formed, and you are encouraged to join the effort! SPC is engaged in much wonderful work alongside our local and international partners. Efforts vary from feeding the local homeless population to caring for orphans in Malawi, to name only a few. With over twenty local and international partners, we are joining hands in our response to a great number of difficult issues. And this response needs to continue.
However, the needs seem to remain, and some needs are actually increasing. Associate Pastor for Missions Rev. Todd E. Leach spoke of this during a recent talk titled, “SPC Missions: Present & Future” (click here and here to view). You are encouraged to join our book study of Toxic Charity to gain an expanded view and understanding of missions. Ultimately, this group will journey upstream to explore and potentially join in efforts addressing the root causes of difficult issues.
If you would like a copy of the book, or if you are interested in learning more, please contact Rev. Leach.
