Children's Ministry

Throughout Shadyside Presbyterian Church, we are eager for children to learn that the church is a special place for them, where they belong, are loved, have friends, and find important service to do.

Programs for Children

Sunday Morning Gathering Times

  • 9:30 a.m. Year round child care for infants through 4-year-olds is offered through the end of worship. Parents should bring their infants and toddlers to the Skewis Playroom.
  • 9:45 a.m. Sunday school classes are offered for 4-year-olds through adults September to June. Children's activities and an adult Bible study continue in the summer. A storytelling circle is also offered for 2 and 3 year-olds during 11 a.m. worship September to June.
  • 11:00 a.m. Worship (year-round) Four-year-olds through sixth graders are encouraged to worship with their parents. Many Sundays they will be invited to the chancel for a special children's portion of the service following the second hymn. Children are always welcome to remain in worship with their parents. Those who choose to leave the worship service will participate in children's worship activities in their regular classrooms.

Parents who would like to accompany a visitor to worship activities are encouraged to do so.

Classroom Aides
During the school year, junior and senior highs have their own gatherings (Breakfast Clubs) at 9:45 a.m. Many volunteer as classroom aides during the worship hour. Interested teens should contact Ellen Allston at eallston@shadysidepres.org to apply to become classroom aides.

Junior Greeters
Junior Greeters will be glad to welcome your children to worship. For information about serving as a junior greeter, please contact Ellen Allston at eallston@shadysidepres.org.

Children's Worship Bulletins
Shadyside Presbyterian Church publishes a children's worship bulletin to welcome all children to the sanctuary each week. It includes worship aides, information and puzzles. Look for the handprint logo on a table in the narthex. Please read and enjoy this bulletin with your children and the other children in your pew.
