SHADYSIDE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

We use the term ‘volunteer’ cautiously. What we are asking is far greater than your giving of your time: We are asking that you give of yourself. By involving yourself in these opportunities, you are doing more than volunteering, you are being involved in ministry. In so doing, you are opening yourself to encounter Christ through serving others.

Volunteer Opportunities

• Drivers Needed
  The Board of Deacons is looking for members who would be interested in picking up non-driving members of the congregation on Sunday morning to drive them to and from the worship service. If interested, please contact Rev. Lynn Portz. 
• EECM Food Pantry Quarterly Collection and Monthly Meal Preparation
  Once each quarter, we collect food and other items for emergency bags for our neighbors in need. A list of needed items is available in the narthex.  Volunteers also serve a monthly meal at the EECM Men's Shelter. Contact SPC's Hunger and Homelessness Mission Action Community through Rev. Todd Leach in the church office.   
• Campus Connections for College Students
  We need families, couples, or individuals who would like to invite a college student into their home once a month for a meal. If you’re interested or would like more information, please contact Dan Potter, Campus Connections Coordinator.
• Mentors for College Students
  We each have a field of study in which we work and about which we are passionate.  Consider sharing some of your knowlege with an eager junior or senior in college who wants to work in a similar field.  To be in our database, please contact Vicki Potter, Mentor Coordinator. 
• Bethlehem Haven Shelter for Women
  Help to provide and serve meals at Bethlehem Haven Shelter for Women. Contact SPC's Hunger and Homelessness Mission Action Community through Rev. Todd Leach in the church office.
• Mentors for Confirmands
  The Youth Ministry Confirmation Team is seeking mentors for approximately 20 youth who will enter our confirmation class in fall 2010. These trusted guides and advisors will meet one-on-one with their confirmands to explore specific topics in concrete ways designed to encourage both the youth and the mentors to be clear about what it means to make a statement of faith.
  
  Confirmation is less about head knowledge or theological language, and more about convictions of the heart and spirit. As we invite these young people to confirm the vows their parents made for them at baptism, we are inviting them to become who they already are: vital members in the family of faith.
  
  Our prayer is that entering into a relationship with an adult mentor who is also seeking to grow in the life of faith will be a rewarding--even a life-changing--opportunity for all involved.
