About the Lectionary

The Daily Lectionary presents a systematic process for reading the Bible over a two-year cycle. It provides for reading the New Testament through once each year while the Old Testament selections extend over the entire period. The readings are also designed to reflect the seasons and festivals of the church year so that Advent and Christmas readings include prophesies of the Messiah, Christ’s birth narratives, and expectations of the Second Coming. The Psalms are the prayer book of the Bible and have a special place in daily prayer. The plan for reading the Psalms presented here simply provides for reading all 150 Psalms in sequence once every eight weeks. Especially those who travel often will want to know that they can get the readings e-mailed or podcast automatically via RSS feed from www.pcusa.org/devotions. (Note that a different, more limited set of Psalms is included there.)
