Many of you may have heard the old joke that Presbyterians are &ldquo\;denser&rdquo\; in Western Pennsylvania than anywhere else but there is historical weight behind the humor. There are still more Presbyterians in the Pittsburgh region than anyplace else in America. One major reason is the heavy influx of Scots-Irish immigrants to the area when it was growing rapidly in the decades after the Revolutionary War.

This is an intergenerational trip to the Appalachian foothills of North Carolina. Shadyside will partner with the Community Housing Coalition of Madison County. Youth and adults will work hand-in-hand on housing rehab and home maintenance projects. No construction skill is required to participate. Children will have their own service program during the week.
