Junior High and Senior High SPYS from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The Men’s Emergency Shelter of East End Cooperative Ministry provides a refuge for the night, an evening meal, and breakfast for any male older than 18. Shadyside continues our long-time commitment to prepare and serve a monthly meal to the residents of this shelter. Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve an evening meal to 40 men. Contact Rev. Todd Leach, Associate Pastor for Missions, for additional information.
From September through May, midweek vespers occur on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. These thirty-minute candlelight worship services, which include communion, offer a more intimate worship experience in the midst of our hectic lives. The services feature special music.
Note: Throughout the construction phase of the Building Community capital campaign, all vespers will occur in the main sanctuary (not in the chapel).
On Saturday, April 24, Off the Floor Pittsburgh (www.offthefloorpittsburgh.org) will need for 5 or 6 volunteers from Shadyside Presbyterian Church to assist with moving furniture for those less fortunate. At this time we do not have a definitive schedule for the morning, however, we can anticipate being able to supply several families with basic furniture items such as beds, chairs, sofa, and/or dining room table/chairs. Spring Workday: On Saturday, May 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., we will partner with Open Hand Ministries, Garfield Farms, and several other local churches to serve our neighbors in Garfield. SPC members will continue rehabbing a house in Garfield with Open Hand Ministries (www.openhandpittsburgh.org) and planting vegetables with Garfield Farms. No special skills or experience are needed. On Sunday, May 2, the Pittsburgh Marathon impacts our worship schedule and provides the occasion for additional fellowship and outreach opportunities.
Due to the Pittsburgh Marathon, the Session has re-scheduled the worship service on Sunday, May 2, to 4:00 p.m. Please join us for a vespers service and remain for a potluck picnic in the Parish Hall immediately afterward.
Join us for fun and healthy fellowship after vespers! A potluck picnic begins in the Parish Hall at 5:00 p.m. Each family should bring a dish that will feed at least 12. Please RSVP to the church office by Thursday, April 29, and let us know what you will bring. To enter the cupcake contest, bring a dozen cupcakes – enough for competition and dessert! CMU Cookie Handout
On Wednesday, May 5, after the evening vespers service, volunteers will journey to the CMU campus to randomly deliver cookies to students who are studying for finals. If you are interested in joining the delivery team, please contact Dave Bindewald at dave@shadysidepres.org.
The Shadyside Mission Retreat will take place on Saturday, May 8, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. The MUM and MAC members of Shadyside Presbyterian Church gather to discuss the previous year’s highlights and the vision of our future mission effort. An Invitation to Membership: Saturday, May 15
Whether you have recently begun visiting with us, or have been attending for quite a while, we invite you to consider joining Shadyside Presbyterian Church. A class will be held on Saturday, May 15, from 9:00 to 11:45 a.m., and will include introductions of our staff and ministries; an overview of our tradition and faith, presented by Dr. Barnes; and a tour of our sanctuary, given by Elder Tim Engleman. You also will have the opportunity to meet others who are new to Shadyside Church!
