“Who touched me?” (Luke 8:45)

What does it take to touch you? How do I get your attention? You were encircled by a crowd of people as you made your way to Jairus’ house. He was an important man, and you were on an important mission to heal his daughter. Lots of people were “pressing in on you.” But when a woman with a chronic medical problem touched the fringe of your clothes, you stopped the parade to ask, “Who touched me?” …

You are the Lord, which in part means that you are the one who makes the commands. We obey, at our best. And we eventually learn that it is to everyone’s benefit if we do. Your commandments are neither arbitrary nor capricious; they are a means of living right. I always end up in the ditch when I disobey them. …
